In April 1996, I went to Tokyo to undertake a series of conferences and to take part in an exhibition of my photographs at the Nikon gallery. I had also hoped that during my stay I would be able to photograph geishas, some stars of sumo and some Japanese models.

These pics are horny and bad. Fuck if you were a normal person from a normal place you would look at this shit and say what the fuck are these people trying to do. These people are seeking truth in a place where there is none...

I am going to look at you from faraway, without you even knowing. What do you see from your young face, through that deforming prism? What do you know ?

When I was a child in Madrid, nothing predisposed me to become a photographer. The only thing I knew at the time was that I wanted to be a writer. It’s only at the age of 23, when my brother and I were involved with the Tubus’ revolt in Chad that I discovered my second vocation: war correspondent.

2nd June, 1982. I'm waiting for the end of the Summit Conference of the industrialized countries on the balcony of the Conference Palace in Versailles. The news comes in: The Israelis have invaded Lebanon. Supported by Sipa Press agency, I decide to join the photographers who are at the front.

At 19 years old, I decided to travel in Africa. I went to Kenya and then to Egypt where I met a Brazilian who invited me to travel to Asia. I left Cairo for Bangkok. It was 1992, and Bangkok was dirty, interesting and full of life. We traveled on to Thailand and then Hong Kong from here I traveled to China. I took a night ferry from Hong Kong...

One of the things that we have become aware of in the 20th century is that a work of art is not a goal in itself, but a sort of linguistic tool, a language. In a way the work speaks and tells a story at the same time. In another way, the visual aspects and the feelings in the piece are the traditional themes with the form and the content, the real and the imaginary, or as well the interior and exterior that cannot be dis-associated from each other...
